In Your Face, Fear!

33967063Title: Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway

Author: Susan Jeffers

Dynamic and inspirational, FEEL THE FEAR AND DO IT ANYWAY is filled with concrete techniques to turn passivity into assertiveness. Dr. Susan Jeffers, teaches you how to stop negative thinking patterns and reeducate your mind to think more positively. You will learn: the vital 10-Step Positive Thinking Process; how to risk a little every day; how to turn every decision into a “No-Lose” situation, and much more.

Hey! Have you ever felt completely frightened to do something important, and to put yourself out there, even though you knew deep down that it could lead to much greater things for you?

Yeah, me too! Quite often actually.

Fear is something that holds practically everyone back at some point in their life. No one is exempt from it. Not even those who you think are the most confident people in the world, because even they have felt nervous about something.

All you have to do, is figure out how to handle that fear, and use it to your own advantage, as opposed to letting it beat you.

Thankfully, there is a way to do so. Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway is a guide that was first released in 1997, but has now been redone, refined, and re released as one of the books for this years QuickReads selection.

It involves an easy to follow, up to date guide, which allows for us to be equipped for situations that we would have probably avoided beforehand. For me, that was applying for Apprenticeships, which since reading this book, I have done so, and even absolutely aced the phone interview.

In your face, fear!

Also, to gain more insight, the author talks about her own previous experiences, as well as sharing stories of others she has known, including that of her own students. It’s even possible you may find a story that resonates with you on a personal level. Who knows?

I do have to say this though, my mom was right. She used to pester me to read this book, and now that I have, I know it to be one of the greatest and most important books I have ever read, although only 110 pages long. It really makes you feel as though you can beat whatever fears and worries are currently in your way and staring you down.

Seriously, anybody who needs to figure out how to reach that next step in life (and maybe wants to say IN YOUR FACE, FEAR), read this book. Your entire perspective on fear might just change.

My Summer Reads 2016

My Summer Reads

Summer is finally here, and although I am in the UK, the country which never quite understands what that word means, it actually feels like Summer, with the heat getting the upper hand already.

At least if it gets too hot, I can always run to my room and read. Saying that though, I probably won’t get to read as much as I normally would, especially not now because tomorrow I am beginning my first day of volunteering at the Cafe in my town. I am terrified but at the same time excited.

That is why I thought I would plan five books that I will definitely read this Summer, whether this month, or next month. Perhaps I will even take one or two of them on holiday with me in August. Who knows?

The Reason I Jump | Book Review

21259527 Title: The Reason I Jump

Author: Naoki Higashida

Publisher: Sceptre

‘A story never before told and a memoir to help change our understanding of the world around us. 13-year-old Naoki Higashida’s astonishing, empathetic book takes us into the mind of a boy with severe autism. With an introduction by David Mitchell, author of the global phenomenon, Cloud Atlas, and translated by his wife, KA Yoshida.’

Review:

This is a hard book to review, because of it being based around the idea of autism, as well as there being quite a bit of controversy around it, but I thought I would give it a go anyway.

The book was written from the perspective of a 13 year old boy suffering with autism. Originally I didn’t know this, so I read the book thinking it was actually from the mind of an adult. In fact, I literally only just found out that it was from a 13 year old, and now I am wondering how a 13 year old could have written this book, especially to the level it was at, but then again, some people are very good at what they do, and in this case it is writing. Still, I am slightly skeptical, because of reading other reviews prior to writing this. I don’t know what to think now.

Every chapter is set as a frequently asked question revolving around the idea of autism, with which the author answers in as best a way possible. There is a lot of important information which I found to be seriously interesting, as I didn’t really know anything about autism before. However, it may not be the full story, as it just a memoir, meaning that it is mainly what has happened in his life, and how he has felt with it. There are obviously people similar, but autism is a large spectrum so it will obviously vary dependent upon where on the spectrum a person is.

The information may be of interest, but even the author does not know to the full extent why certain things happen, but then again, who really knows how everything works? Saying that, I still managed to learn from what was given to you. The only way is up when you don’t know much on a subject, so even a little, was a lot.

This is a book I am still trying to figure out. I am stuck in the middle with my feelings towards it, but if you want to read it, there is a lot you can get out of it, but don’t take everything as the be all and all. There is always more to a story, than just one person’s view of it.
