Book Club Tuesday | ‘Staying Strong 365 Days A Year’ Review

staying-strongTitle: Staying Strong 365 Days A Year

Author: Demi Lovato

Publisher: Headline

‘Demi Lovato wakes up each morning and affirms her commitment to herself—to her health, her happiness, her being. Those commitments are the bedrock of her recovery and her work helping other young people dealing with the issues she lives with every single day.

Demi is a platinum-selling recording artist whose latest album—DEMI—is already a smash hit. She’s about to embark on her second season as a judge on X-Factor, and just launched The Lovato Treatment Scholarship Program. And she is an outspoken advocate for young people everywhere.

Demi is also a young woman finding her way in the world. She has dealt deftly with her struggles in the face of public scrutiny, and she has always relied, not just on friends and family, but daily affirmations of her self-worth and value. Affirmations that steady her days and strengthen her resolve.

Those affirmations have grown into STAYING STRONG, a powerful 365-day collection of Demi’s most powerful, honest, and hopeful insights. Each day will provide the readers with a quote, a personal reflection and a goal.

These are Demi’s words. Words she lives by and shares with the people she loves and total strangers alike. They are a powerful testament to a young woman standing up and fighting back.’

A few years ago, I woke up Christmas Day to find this little jem hiding underneath, what can only be described as a mound of presents. Unfortunately, at the time, I had no idea it was going to be a hardcover, so I, in a rush of excitement, accidentally ripped part of the dust jacket along with the wrapping paper.

At the time, I didn’t think it was going to be my type of book, but I actually ended up loving it, a lot. To date, I have actually read the book through twice. I think it is safe to say, this is the book which encouraged me to expand and embrace a wider reading scope, and begin to read more non fiction.

As well as being a new form of reading for me to look into, it also served its original purpose, which is to help gain that little bit more confidence. For a long time now I have been suffering with anxiety, as well as being insecure in myself, but when I first picked up this book, I instantly felt empowered and a bit stronger, especially in myself.

What I really loved about this particular book, was how it manages to incorporate quotes, along with goals to make the reader think and influence action for a person’s own life. It is a different way of looking at how to deal with the problems we may be facing on a day to day basis. As Demi herself has been through similar things, it makes it easier to understand because she has been there, and her advice is therefore more real.

I cannot recommend this book enough. It never gets old and all you need to read is a page a day, because it goes by the day. It is helpful and a fun read.
